- grow spiritually
- study, memorize, and apply Scripture
- have lots of fun
Discovery Club Goals: to help churched and un-churched
children …
- enter into a personal relationship with Jesus and understand the Bible
- form strong, healthy Christian relationships
- grow in all aspects of life—physical, intellectual, social, emotional,
and spiritual
During Discovery Club Meetings include:
- Welcome & Singing
This opening time includes taking prayer requests, praying as a group, and
singing our club theme song and other songs.
─ "To God be the Glory"
─ "King of the Jungle"
─ "Get Down"
─ "Fill in the Blanks"
- Bible Study & Bible Award
Each Bible Study and Bible Award time has three sections:
1. "Focus" meets club members where they are and gets them thinking
about the lesson theme.
2. "Study" gets them into God’s Word to see how it applies to their
everyday lives.
3. "Apply" leads them to make changes to their lives based on what
they’ve discovered.
During these sections, the club members will complete one or more Bible
Award Steps, located in their handbooks. The handbook work is an integral
part of each Bible Study; the study is incomplete without it. This year’s
study has focused on “Discovering God’s Love”. The units of study included:
─ God Made Me
─ Fantastic Friends
─ Jesus Our Savior
─ My Family and Me
─ Bible Investigator
─ In God’s Family
- Scripture Memory
Each unit provides creative techniques for teaching one unit memory verse.
Memory verse Stickers, which club members stick in their handbooks,
encourage and reinforce memorization.
- Skill Award
Club members work on one or more Skill Award Steps in each meeting.
Activities include creative crafts, woodworking, cooking, art fun and
outdoor fun.
- Games
Each meeting includes fun and learning games.
- Goodbye
During this time, we keep track of aware Steps completed, make announcements
for upcoming meetings, and pray.
The Discovery Club participated in the following
activities throughout the year:
- Making and delivery care baskets for our friends at the Britthaven
Nursing Home.
- Collected coins in baby bottles for the Wayne Pregnancy
Care Center.
- Skating Party
- July 4th Celebration
- Contributed to the
Church’s Ministry program to the Marine’s serving in Iraq
Discovery Club’s Statement of Faith
Discovery Club embraces Scripture as God’s Word and the
authority for all aspects of life. A primary goal of the curriculum is to help
children use, understand, and apply the Bible in daily life.
- We believe in one God, eternally existent in three persons: Father, Son,
and Holy Spirit (John 14:16-17;
Matthew 28:19).
- We believe that Jesus Christ was begotten by the Holy Spirit, born of
the Virgin Mary, and is true God and true man (Matthew 1:18,23).
- We believe in the Scriptures of Old and New Testaments as verbally
inspired by God and inerrant in the original writings, and of supreme and
final authority in faith and life (2 Peter 1:20-21;
2 Timothy 3:16-17).
- We believe that we were created in the image of God; that we sinned, and
thereby incurred, not only physical death, but also that spiritual death
which is separation from God; and that all human beings are born in sin, and
that this sinful nature is the origin of all sinful acts in thought, word,
and deed (Genesis 1:26;
Romans 5:12;
Isaiah 59:2;
Romans 6:23).
- We believe that the Lord Jesus Christ died for our sins, according to
the Scriptures, as a representative and substitutionary sacrifice; and that
all who believe in Him are justified on the ground of His shed blood (Romans
5:8-9).
- We believe that all who receive by faith the Lord Jesus Christ are born
again of the Holy Spirit, and thereby become children of God (John 1:12;
Romans 8:9).
- We believe in the bodily resurrection of Christ and His ascension to
Heaven, and in His present work as High Priest and advocate (1 Corinthians
15:3-4; Hebrews 4:14-16).
- We believe in the personal return of Jesus Christ (Acts 1:11;
1
Thessalonians 4:16-17).
- We believe in the bodily resurrection of the just to everlasting
blessedness, and the unjust to everlasting punishment (Acts 24:15;
Revelation 20:15; Romans 6:23).
